Many internet marketers begin with affiliate marketing-promoting products that were created by someone else. This is a quick and easy way to get started in internet marketing. But to make really big money you will eventually want to create your own products. Having your own products not only gives you the opportunity to make more money, it also establishes you as an expert in your field, which raises the value of your products even more.

To quickly create your own product, chunk the information into small, concise components that offer high-perceived value. Package the product so that it can be downloaded or produced quickly and easily.

Camera Book

Arrange the chunked information into your main content, any bonuses you will offer, and your backend products for follow-upsales.

You may present all of the information in one format or several. For instance, you may offer a video program with bonuses offered in e-book form.

Internet Marketing-Create Your Own Product Fast

Some products that you can put together quickly are:

Audio Interviews

Interview an expert or have someone interview you. The interview can be done in person or by phone and is virtually cost-free. Record the interview and put it into MP3 format that can be easily downloaded by your customers.

Video Tutorials

These can be done with a webcam or a handheld video camera or, if the material is something that is done on the computer, can be recorded with screen capture software such as Camtasia Studio.

Private Label Rights

This allows you to purchase a product such as an e-book that someone elsehas already written, put your name on it, and sell it as if it were your own. You have to purchase the material upfront, but this is probably the quickest way to create your own product.

Webinars, Teleseminars, and E-Classes

These are used for information that you lead your customers through step by step over the internet or the telephone in real time. They also allow for question and answer periods, creating a solid relationship with your customers.

These are just a few of the methods you can use to create your own products and turn yourself into an internet marketing mogul.

Sydney is the best loved city in Australia, and the oldest. Today, Sydney has grown into a lively city with lots of get-up-and-go and is definitely one of the most preferred holiday destinations for a number of reasons. Known as The Harbour, due to its location on the south-eastern coast and situation around Port Jackson, it has a booming tourism industry attributable to stunning natural attractions, soaring skyscrapers, excellent shopping and restaurants, awe-inspiring architecture and its warm and friendly locals.

The city has to be most well-known for Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. Its beautiful beaches stretch for miles, and for those who like fresh air then this is a city that can provide a city feel with the cool wind of the ocean, and is within easytravelling distance to national parks, rivers, bays and coves.

Sydney has the most amazing natural views, the perfect warm climate and long stretches of tropical beaches. Whatever your interest, you are guaranteed to find sights and attractions that will keep you entertained and grabbing for your room at every opportunity. Culture is found at various venues around the city, check out the Sydney Opera House, the City Recital Hall, Griffin Theatre Company, Company B and the Wharf Theater online for their programme of events.

Camera Book

If it is architecture you are fascinated with then the city has fine examples of Edwardian, Victorian and Georgian architecture. With the vast array of festivals organized you are certain to catch one of them, particularly in the summer months, peopleflock here in their thousands for the Sydney Festival, Australia’s largest celebration, the Big Day Out which is a rock music festival, and the Sydney Film Festival, to name just a few.

One of the more famous is the Mardi Gras, an annual gay pride parade and festival for the LGBT community that offers a great way for visitors to soak up the atmosphere. Organized events over 3 weeks generally start off with an outdoor fair, ideal for anyone with a family and children as there is entertainment, music, theatre, and an art show. The Parade is a part of the festival definitely not to be missed, commencing at Hyde Park, turning up Oxford St and into Flinders Street before finally coming to a halt at Moore Park. Once the parade is over then the partying begins!

Don’t Miss the Mardi Gras in Sydney

There is no similarevent in the world that is as large as Sydney’s Mardi Gras and the parade is a mix of community groups from Sydney itself or from all over Australia, as well as individual participants. Float after float streams through the streets of the city with costumes getting more and more elaborate and extravagant, and colourful.

The parade and party following draws in thousands of visitors both from Australia and abroad. If you are planning on going to join in the party then it’s advised you book accommodation well in advance as the city is packed and hotels are taking bookings months before.

And finally if all you want to do is lie on a sun-soaked beach and chill out the where better than Sydney? With its oceanic climate it’s perfect for beach lovers. Take the short trip to BondiBeach and take a swim or go surfing in its deep blue waters.

There is a range of Sydney accommodation and hotels just book early to avoid having to pay more than you intended or not able to stay in the area of your choice. Instead of a hotel, why not choose to stay somewhere a little more private whilst you’re in the city? Fully serviced two and three bedroom executive apartments can be found in a central location and with a balcony and views of the city skyline. You can be close to all the major tourist attractions and entertainment whilst feeling as if you are at home!

Most people tend to answer: ‘ Getting the likeness. ‘ But any experienced, successful, and honest portrait painter can tell you that ‘ getting a likeness ‘ is purely a matter of careful observation and measurement of the physical proportions of your sitter. A human subject can, and should be, assessed by the artist in the same way as you would a landscape, still life or any other subject for a painting.

The real challenge is to convey the character of the person you are painting. For this, it is essential to arrange at least one face-to-face meeting with your Subject, lasting at least two hours. Although it is natural to offer coffee or a cold drink, avoid letting this become a social visit. The time of your sitter is at least as valuable as your own and s/he is at your studiofor a purpose. Use the time well.

A very good way to get a feel for the inner Self of your subject is to make this first meeting in photo session. With a fast-action camera hand-held, no tripods or fancy lights to make the sitter nervous and self-conscious-you can ask questions while you snap away. Somehow, people are always willing to answer the photographer!

Camera Book

One unforgettable instance of this happened as I was taking the initial snapshots of a retired sugarcane farmer who was extremely reserved and private by nature. Acting on a happy inspiration, I produced an authentic, well-worn cane machete from my ‘ props ‘ cupboard and asked him to demonstrate the proper way to use it (on an imaginary stand of dog.) Suddenly, he came to life and talked with deep passion about hislove for the land and his life on the farm, recalling his favourite dog and the long-dead horses which once helped him cultivate the crop. Thinking aloud, I said it sounded as if he were speaking of his own private kingdom and he replied that was just how he felt about it. That moment of illumination resulted in the portrait I called ‘ Sugarcane Kingdom. ‘ The photos do not need to be very good because you will mainly use them as reference when the sitter is absent. So, be sure to get shots from many angles. You will have taken measurements, either with bulk or by eye, and noted these down in writing or by making sketches. Still, your photos will be invaluable in letting you check without constantly calling the sitter’s back to the studio.

The greatest boon of the camera is inletting you catch that characteristic gesture or stance of your subject when s/he is at ease and forgetting to ‘ pose ‘.

An example of this happened during the first session for my portrait of well-known conservationist and fellow artist Percy Trezise. Clearly thinking to ‘ help ‘ me make an interesting picture, Percy had struck a dramatic pose each time I picked up my sketch book. So, only by swift and sneaky action with the camera could catch the real man at ease.

The Painted Portrait-What is So Hard About it?

When Percy came to view the finished work, he brought along his wife and his mother. They were all pleased with the portrait, but Percy protested that he never stood with his hands in his pockets thrust down as shown in the painting. As he said it, his two ladies laughed, and as they pointed at him, Percy looked downand grinned, seeing his hands were, at that moment, stuck deep in his trouser pockets.

Of course, as every portrait painter knows, a truly accurate rendition may provoke disappointment in the subject caused by his/her own vanity or by the rank sentimentality of relatives and friends. This obstacle arose very early in my own career. The sitter was about to resume her overseas posting and wanted the portrait as a gift for her mother. Lucy (not her real name) was a very beautiful woman in her mid-forties, with a ‘ lived-in ‘ face full of character. But like so many women of our Super model, Lucy was worried about the lines that made her face so expressive, even in repose. Her only request to me was: ‘ You will take out my wrinkles, won’t you? ‘ Sitting her down at my dressing table, I asked herto frown then smile into the mirror. She was then able to see, as I had, that her so-called wrinkles were all lines of good humour and a record of the happiness she had experienced.

Some weeks later, I took a phone call from her mother, who asked if she could bring the portrait to my studio for discussion about a change she would like made. I figured this would be minor; after all, it has been infamously said that ‘ A portrait is a likeness in which there is something a bit wrong with the mouth. ‘ But did I get a shock! The lady explained that her daughter did not have ‘ all those wrinkles ‘ and she had brought along some photos to prove it and help me change the painting.

Carefully, I set them out in a row, asking the mother to tell me what age Lucy was when each photo wastaken. The most recent of them was taken when Lucy was nineteen. I then laid out the photos I had taken of Lucy at her sitting, letting the mother make her own comparisons. She was able to realise that her fond maternal memory had obscured the reality.

I did this once, myself. An attempt to produce a portrait of my son as a gift for his grandmother resulted in a picture that made him appear angelic. Only he had the courage to make me see what I had done: ‘ Mum, you painted this one with the eye of a Mother, not a Painter. ‘

When you arranged this first session with your client on the phone, you would have clearly stated how long it would take. It is courteous to stick to that agreement-your client may well have other important things to do that day. So, keep a discreet eye onyour watch, and when time is nearly up, thank your client for a productive session. Ask that s/he be willing to come to the studio again for at least one more sitting prior to the final check (skin and hair colouring etc) before completion of the painting. S/he is certain to agree; after all, s/he has as much interest as you do in achieving a successful portrait.

It is a good idea to discuss size at this stage; some people have a fixed preference, though they will accept your advice if you clearly explain your reasons. I have sometimes had to persuade clients to a smaller size-for example, when a huge canvas of a child would be inappropriate to the subject and overwhelming in the home or a larger size when a double portrait would look cramped on a small canvas or less thanimpressive in the board room. You might also ask whether s/he would like to arrange the framing or would prefer to leave it to you.

Before s/he leaves, explain that you will send a letter setting out the specifications of the work for approval within the next X days. This will depend on how long it takes you to decide on the composition, which in turn will decide the best size (and in most cases, the price) for the work. If you are an experienced painter, this will also allow you to quote an estimated delivery date.

It is extremely helpful to both parties if you can show your sketches or drawings at this point. It is a bit tough to expect anyone else to imagine what you are planning from words alone! Because my technique is to make a detailed Drawing straight onto thecanvas, I can invite clients to view it at the studio if they live locally or are prepared to travel. But many folk can happily decides to go ahead on the basis of good photos of your drawings, so long as you spell everything out.

If you accept a commission from a corporate or public (i.e. government funded and administered) client, I would recommend the use of a formal contract. Guidelines are available from your local Art Society or Arts Law centre. But for private clients, my experience has been that such formality is not needed. Your letter setting out the specifications of the work, and the client’s acceptance will be binding enough. In nearly thirty years, I have never had a private client who did the wrong thing. If you have doubts, ask for a written acceptance for yourrecords ‘ or write a memo of the phone call when the client accepts, and maybe lodge a copy with your lawyer.

One more thing: Because a portrait is a Painting, and a painting like a living thing evolves during its creation, it is vital that you reserve the right to make changes if the artistic need arises, even after the client gives approval of your original design. Make this request clearly before you begin, in fact, it is best to include it in your letter as well. If you have taken the time to plan the painting to the very best of your ability, any changes will not radically affect the design, but will only enhance it.

To sum up:

1. Seek the inner person of your subjects.

2. Faithfully reproduce their real physical appearance-no Botox or plastic ‘ artisticsurgery ‘ even if it means refunding the deposit and declining the commission; if the rejected portrait works as a Painting, it will usually sell in the gallery anyway.

3. Explain your plan for the work clearly and honestly to the client. Make sure that you both understand what is agreed, so there are no nasty surprises.

4. Do not contemplate becoming a portraitist unless you truly enjoy painting people. If you do, Happy Painting! It is a fascinating challenge.

If there is one thing Apple is known for, it is constant product releases. Each of their products has several different sub-types, and the iPod is a prime example of this practice. The various types of Apple iPod can be hard to keep straight for someone who doesn’t read multiple technical blogs every single day. Let’s take a look at some of the different types in more detail.

The iPod Touch

Camera Book

This is Apple’s latest version of the iPod, and it is basically the iPhone without the cellular and camera capabilities. It also comes with more memory than the standard iPhone with 8 GB, 16 GB and 32 GB models to choose from. Going beyond the capabilities of a normal MP3 player, the iPod touch has full internet access through its wi-fi connection, a completely touchscreen interface, and allows you to play games, movies, and TV shows as well as listen to MP3 ‘s.

The iPod Classic

 Various Types of Apple iPod

Of the various types of Apple iPod, this is perhaps the most recognizable. This is the signature style that has been around for years. The features are nowhere near those of the iPod touch, but for what it lacks in “wow factor”, it makes up for with storage. Up to 120 GB of songs, audio books, pictures, movies, and music videos can be stored on its hard drive.

The iPod Nano

This slim MP3 player is called the Nano for a reason. It weighs around an ounce and a half, and is only 1/4 inch thick and 1 1/2 inches wide. It doesn’t have near the memory of the classic iPod, but its small form factor makes up for it.

The iPod Shuffle

A mere few minutes away from one of St Lucia’s most popular resorts, Rodney Bay, Pigeon Island. This 44-acre picturesque nature reserve was once fully an island completely surrounded by water; but in 1972 a causeway was built, linking the island to St. Lucia’s mainland. In its lifetime Pigeon Island has been a stronghold of pirates, Amerindians, and both French and British troops. Today, the island is a national park, a national landmark and a popular destination for day trippers.

Pigeon Island’s first inhabitants were the Arawaks, who were driven out by the Caribs in about 1000 AD. Centuries later a band of pirates, led by a captain called Francois le Clerc, took up residence. This colourful character had a wooden leg, and the French called him “Jambe de Bois (‘ PegLeg “).

In 1778 the French, who owned Pigeon Island at that time, declared war on the British, who then attacked and captured the St. Lucia island and built fortifications there (the fort-Fort Rodney-can still be visited today). The island from then on played an important strategic part in battles between French and British troops.

In 1979 St Lucia’s government, in recognition of the need to preserve such a historically important site, designated to Pigeon Island national park; later, in 1992, it was declared a national landmark. To this day, the island is maintained as one of St Lucia’s most beautiful and popular visitor attractions, which is open to visitors 365 days of the year with a small fee payable by visitors who want to explore this very special place.

St Lucia Attractions: Pigeon Island National Landmark

When youvisit Pigeon Island there’s plenty to do and see. Photography is the obvious activity; with so much beautiful scenery and such fantastic views once you’ve climbed either (or both) of the island’s peaks, you’ll really kick yourself if you forget your camera, so make sure you remember to pack it! There are two beautiful white sand beaches at Rodney Island, with ‘ kayak safaris ‘ available for those who enjoy watersports. Walking and exploring of course are very popular activities, and once you’ve finished exploring you can rent a beach lounger and relax in the sunshine.

There’s also a pub and restaurant with a historical theme, an interpretation centre where you can learn about Pigeon Island’s history in more detail, and of course the ruins of the military buildings that were in useduring the battles between the French and British. At the interpretation centre there is much emphasis on the late eighteenth century, with plenty of information about the Battle of the Saints. And there’s also an excellent shop on Pigeon Island, where you can buy souvenirs, books and gifts to take home with you.

Wildlife is also prevalent on Pigeon Island; you may even see mongoose, kestrels, or during your exploration. And with its close proximity to Rodney Bay, once you’ve finished your tour, there’s even more to see back on the mainland.

Have you ever lost anything? Of course we all have, from the tops of jars to the people we love. They can appear to be lost, but are they?

The human reaction to loss begins with our own personal “voice monkey” in our head. Although the exact words may be different for each of us, what it says is never kind. This voice in our head is not ours, but we think it is because it speaks to us in our own voice and our own language, so we listen, and that listening blinds us.

Camera Book

This of course is its intent, to make us forget that nothing can ever be lost, because every person, place, or thing is the presence of the One Mind, the Divine Consciousness that holds the world “as Its Thought.

Lost And Found: Principle And Perception

To demonstrate the practicality of starting with the Principle and perception of One Mind, here are four of these stories for you, beginning with two from me.

1. I was looking for hot sauce in the refrigerator. I have specific places I put things in the refrigerator so I looked there, but couldn’t see it. I shut the door and the “monkey voice” told me that either I didn’t have any, or I misplaced it. Dismissing that thought, I opened the door and looked again. Nothing had changed; it wasn’t there.

While moving on to another idea for my recipe the idea that “Mind Never Loses Anything” came to me. That night as I was falling asleep, I remembered that the hot sauce I was looking for had a different kind of lid then most bottles. The next morning I looked in the refrigerator, exactly where I had looked before and saw the bottle.

What happened here? I was lookingfor one kind of hot sauce bottle so my Point Of View Perception (looking for how I thought the bottle should look) kept me from seeing what was already present, but looked different then what I expected.

2. While putting on my earrings I dropped one on the floor. I heard it drop, so I knew where it was, but I couldn’t see it. Rejecting the “false voice” that said I was careless, and because we were leaving that morning I had lost it forever, I welcomed instead the “still small voice” that told me that “Mind Is Not Careless,” which prompted the idea to ask for help. I asked if he would find it for me. I told him where I had dropped it. he walked into the room, and immediately saw it on the floor.

What’s at work here? Perception again. This time it was my State Of MindPerception. I was anxious and worried that I wouldn’t find it before we left. This perception temporarily blinded me to what was already present so I asked for help from someone that wasn’t in that State Of Mind.

The next two stories are from women in one of our classes.

3. “I’ll jump right in with a short story about how I was helped today through turning to One Mind for direction. I could not find my room after bringing in all the “stuff” from the van after my return home from a week at the beach. Unpacked and looked through everything that I’d piled up. No room. Called the condo rental office and asked them to check doorknob on inside of master closet.

Before leaving we all checked and would each room and all drawers, etc. looking for forgotten items and sawno room. I started to get perturbed and critical for being forgetful. Decided to get quiet and turn to One Mind instead and to listen for the right direction.

No camera found in the condo. Dismissed the thought that it was taken from the vehicle at one of my stops, knowing that dishonesty was a lie about the real man. When quiet and calm, the thought came to look under car seats before turning in a rental van. Guess what? Found the room wedged under the front seat of the van.

This required a shift in my thinking to get quiet enough to hear direction as to where to look while remaining calm and free from condemnation and criticism. It filled my heart with joy and gratitude that seemed right to share with my new partners. I am most grateful for this healing direction. “

4. “could not find my coupon book for my car payments. Since I have recently moved, I still have some “temporary” filing places and I had checked all of them … twice … as well as my desk but no book. So I sat down, took a few deep breaths and affirmed that I knew where it was. Almost immediately I “heard” that it was in the desk. I got up and went right to it, exactly where I had looked just a few minutes earlier! Amazing, huh?? Gotta love it! “

Principle and Perception was at work in all these examples. What we see and experience is exactly what we expect, understand, been taught, accept, believe and perceive we will.

It’s up to each of us individually to make and practice the choice to shift our perception to the correct premise that there is only One Mind. It’s up to us to shiftto the Principle that everything is present now and forever, inseparable from the thinking of Divine Consciousness.

This perception shift doesn’t create anything: it reveals its presence. There is always a practical result as evidence of the Principle of One Mind.

Shift to this Principle and Perception and you too will see what has only appeared to be lost. But, don’t look wanting it be how you want it to be. Instead allow it to be present how it is, because like the hot sauce, the earring, the camera, and the checkbook, it is present now in your life.

Once upon a time, in a land far away, there was a photographer that always told his subjects, “Smile big for the camera.” The problem with this fairytale is that not everyone smiles all the time. Let’s say for example you said that; to someone at a family reunion you happen to be covering, and then you find out that person just lost her spouse of 53 years. Would that still be appropriate? When you cover events; your job as the photographer is not just to cover what everybody expects, but to cover what they feel as well.

Sure, you can take pictures of the joy of victory, but don’t forget about the agony of defeat. We are human after all. Our faces often express doubt, fear, courage, surprise, boredom, excitement and more. A baby takes his or her first couple steps and thenfalls; there is a brief moment where you can tell that child is trying to decide if they want to cry or not. Is it a picture perfect portrait? No. Is it a picture worth having? Yes.

Some of mans greatest moments as in the moment of overcoming something else. Sports, drama, playing, dancing, morning, building, and exercising are all very real to those participating in those things at the moment. Each will bring up different emotions, each will show different expressions. Rarely do these everyday things involve a big cheesy grin ear to ear. Don’t get me wrong, smiles are great, but they are not the only things worth photographing.

A summary based on 1000 ‘s of cameras of all brands I have seen and repaired. The weak spots of the camera:

• LCD display-Glass! Easily broken, when knocked or pressure applied!
• Media compartment

Camera Book

1. CF Card-long pins inside the camera need to access contacts inside the little holes of the card. Even tough the card has groves along the side, which act as guide rails, I have seen cameras with damaged card slots. Pins easily break off or bend, when not careful during seating or extraction of the card.
2. Tape mechanism-very delicate and flimsy-do not apply any pressure, when loading or removing the tape! Keep it clean and shut, when not used.
3. Disc mechanism-not too bad, just watch for fingerprints and scratches discs, of course.

4. Extendable lens jammed lens-sections due to dirt, sand and impact. So keep it clean, free of dirt and sand at any time. Make sure the lens is inside, when the room is not used!

Self induced faults: Liquid, Sand and shock damage make up about 70% of all repairs

How to Get the Most Out of Your Room-Care and Damage Prevention

Water and liquid damage
There are three things to look out for, when the camcorder comes in contact with a liquid.

a. Most liquids are conducting and short out circuitry inside the camcorder.
b. Corrosion occurs, when the liquid reacts with the copper tracks or other components on the

circuit board and mechanism. Seawater is one of the worst liquids, as it reacts with most of the

components inside the camera.
c. In the mechanism the tape gets stuck on the metal parts, such asvideo head drum and prevents it

from spinning. Most liquids leave a residue, which malfunction the recorder mechanism.
What to do, to minimize the damage

Liquid damage
No matter how badly the camera is affected by the settlement, the first thing you should do, is to disconnect the battery or power source, to prevent shorting any of the circuitry. Once the room has been dried, try to eject the tape or other media and use a different one for testing. If this does not help or your room has been immersed in water, bring it to a repairer as soon as possible to prevent any corrosion.

Sand damage
Any sand or dirt damage, the first thing you should do is to disconnect the battery or power source. Secondly, clean the room thoroughly with a small dry brush and cloth. Now reconnect the battery, press eject and remove the tape or other media. Leave the cassette compartment open and remove the battery. When you see sand grains inside the Middle compartment, just blow it out with compressed air. Try to avoid touching any components, as they can be very sensitive, particularly in a tape mechanism. If this procedure was not successful, the camera needs to be booked in with a repairer.

Shock damage
The only thing you can do in this case is to reset the camera by disconnecting the battery or power source for a few seconds and then connecting it again. Try to remove the cassette and then reload again. If unsuccessful, see a repairer.

Damage Prevention-this applies to all cameras

Very important-have your camera bag sand free and cleanfrom the inside. Do not store any liquids like water bottles etc. in your camera bag, just in case.

• Use a padded bag from all 6 sides
• Transport and store room without accessories attached. Keep the room in a separate compartment, away from other things. This way the camera is less bulky, lighter and therefore less prone to damage.
• Lens filter for protection-most lenses are none serviceable items and need to be replaced as a complete unit.
• Take your time during loading and unloading of the cassette, disc or memory card. Do not be rushed and apply any force during this procedure. Get into the habit of closing the cassette compartment where it says ‘ push ‘ on the door.
• Keep the camera in plastic zipper bag inside your padded camera bag,to prevent any sand damage on the beach, or from water/rain damage etc.

Summary
More detailed and complimentary information as well as a ‘ How to … ‘ video called ‘ DIY Camera Care and Damage Prevention ‘ you find on my website.

For antique appraisals to be done properly, the appraiser needs to see and touch the item in order to determine its value. That is why it is usually best to bring your article to the appraiser rather than attempt to find someone online to do the appraisal. Online antique appraisals are not usually as accurate as appraisals in person because pictures can’t come close to showing the piece like real life can. There are many who claim to have the knowledge to appraise an antique because they have many years of experience buying and selling antiques themselves. Although that may have some truth to it, the professional appraisers have actually studied the trade and they have the papers to prove it. Don’t be afraid to ask for credentials before paying someone to appraise yourantique.

If you are looking to sell something you believe to be valuable, such as antique clocks, bottles, books, dishes, etc. selling to an appraiser or collectibles dealer is not usually a good idea. Although there are many honest appraisers/dealers, you may be dealing with someone who will take advantage of your lack of knowledge. As well, knowing the history of your antique is very helpful in determining its value. This is where the internet can help you. There are many places you can do research on your antique dolls, cameras or chairs. This will cost you nothing and you will be better equipped if and when you decide to take the next step and have an official appraisal done. This may also help you determine if your item is indeed a valuable antique. There are many criteria tolook for when evaluating an antique-its condition, its age and how rare it is, just to name a few.

When searching for antiques to purchase, look out for reproduction. To the naked eye, not everyone can tell the difference. That is why it is important to seek the opinion of a professional before paying dearly for something that may not be as valuable as an antique dealer has made it out to be. Beware before purchasing or selling anything that is considered an antique. Doing your homework will pay off in the end. You should be especially careful if someone offers you a free appraisal. An opinion is not an appraisal. Antique appraisers are not in the business of giving free antique appraisals.

For those of you who have attended auctions, you know that the auctioneer is thereto get as much money as he can for each article he sells. Some antiques purchased at auctions are sold for more than they are worth because of the hype. Others are sold for less than their appraised value because the right person was not in attendance. Usually when appraisals are done, the appraiser says that “at auction”, the article could fetch a certain amount. This is not a guarantee, it is a best case scenario.

The most important thing to remember when trying to put a value to a piece of history, is to cover all your bases. Do as much research as you can. Although antique appraisals are usually the best way to determine the worth of a prized possession, being educated and prepared are very close seconds. Just remember, the one who has the most to gain or lose is you.
